Empower Therapeutics is building a digital therapeutic to help people manage chronic pelvic pain without medications or surgery. Their product combines sensors and software to give users real-time feedback on their brain activity and pain sensitivity, with the goal of empowering users to train their brain to feel less pain.

Discovery
Empower Therapeutics partnered with LunarLab to create a prototype to test their digital solution to pelvic pain. The main goals of the prototype were to:
- gather feedback from both clinicians and end users on the proposed designs and flows
- generate designs to formalize product direction
- get suggestions for improved user experience
- create assets to begin fundraising for the next fundraising round and attract/engage commercial and academic collaborators
- attract investors
Research
We also consulted with Empower Therapeutics to create a customized research plan that they could use to gather feedback on their prototype. We created a custom plan for each user type: clinicians and people who suffer from pelvic pain. Our research plan focused on answering the following questions:
- Is the product intuitive to use? Are there any usability issues that would hurt user retention?
- Do patients understand how the app works?
- Do patients and clinicians trust the product?
- What concerns do patients have with using the product?
- What concerns to clinicians have with recommending the product?
- Where do people currently find solutions for chronic pelvic pain?
- How do people currently manage their chronic pelvic pain?
- Would clinicians consider recommending this type of app?
- What is the best time in the patient journey to use the app?
We provided interview scripts specially tailored to each persona, which allowed our client to conduct their own research. The information gathered from these interviews will provide the direction needed for Empower Therapeutics to take their product to market successfully.
