Mealvana asked for LunarLab’s help in reimagining a new mobile app experience. Through observations and feedback, Mealvana knew that their existing meal plan creation flow was cumbersome and confusing to their users. We created an all new meal planning flow and conducted usability testing using a wireframe prototype. We knew people needed to easily swap out recipes, increase or decrease the number of servings, and easily tell what meals made up their weekly meal plan.
After a few final tweaks, we had a simplified meal planning flow that was more intuitive and easier to use.

For apps like Mealvana, simplicity is key. Meal planning should be quick and easy, and minimize the number of decisions that need to be made. We know through research that decision fatigue is one reason people rely on subscriptions like HelloFresh (“I’m tired of deciding what to eat – just make my meal plan for me”), so we knew Mealvana had to be similarly simple. Once a user goes through onboarding, inputting things like family size, dietary requirements, etc., the meal plan is automatically generated. When they open the app the following week – their previous preferences are saved, and a new plan is generated with one-click – designed to be simple, easy, and intuitive.
