In 2021, the overall maternal mortality rate was 32.9 deaths per 100,000 live births. For Black women, it was 69.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, 2.6 times the rate for White women.
In the U.S., Black women are dying at abysmal rates, not only maternal health, but also:
Before birth
After birth,
Across the lifespan
OMA’s mission is to increase Black women’s access to culturally competent care by helping Nurse Practitioners build scalable and profitable practices. They provide streamlined patient onboarding, marketing, billing and administration support, and education, all in one platform.
“Delivering quality care while OMA handles the rest.”

Business Consulting
We consulted with OMA to discuss various options for her business strategy. Their goal was to build a two-sided marketplace that helped Black women locate culturally competent care virtually. This option allows Nurse Practitioners to list a public profile. Patients would be able to browse providers and schedule a virtual appointment.
For the MVP, the founder was debating between an off-the-shelf solution vs. a custom software application.
For the custom software development approach, we identified complexity, provided risk/benefit analysis, and outlined a potential roadmap to implementation.
For the off-the-shelf solution, we gathered cost estimations from various vendors.
After weighing many pros and cons, our recommended approach was a custom software development plan that offered the least risk and fastest path to revenue.
Website Design
OMA’s logo has an organic shape to it, so we used those shapes as inspiration for their website. Organic textures are used throughout the design, balanced with a curvy serif font (Noto Serif) to give movement to the page. The brand palette consists of warm shades of gold, brown, tans, and red.
