Discovery
During our Design and Product Strategy workshop, we identified the following high-level goals for the redesign:
reduce the time it takes a hiring manager to hire
create a new onboarding experience
create a more usable, intuitive dashboard
make the application more self-service for customers
After reviewing the existing application, we identified some additional opportunities for improvement:
reduce clicks required to complete primary tasks
introduce color and typographic guidelines for the user interface to improve readability and task completion
simplify the information architecture to streamline workflows
clarify UI copy to minimize ambiguity across the system
Design
Sprocket’s existing workflows were clunky and confusing. When a hiring manager logged in to review new applicants, it wasn’t apparent where to navigate in order to begin reviewing. With this problem in mind, we simplified the navigation and clarified copy and labels in the system so that applicants could be reviewed quickly, saving hiring managers precious time.
The current application’s color scheme was also problematic. There was no hierarchy to the button styles or colors, leading to confusion about what meaning the different colors have, and what happens once clicked. The existing colors also failed ADA accessibility contrast standards. In our new design system, we introduced primary, secondary and tertiary button styles compliant with ADA guidelines, as well as guidance on which buttons to use for different scenarios.
We also added new features like onboarding, subscription management, and billing, all of which allow users to be more self-sufficient, reducing reliance on customer support.
