Meet LunarLab’s Founders: Elizabeth Anderson

Meet Elizabeth Anderson, LunarLab’s CEO.  She and Kelli Lucas founded LunarLab together in 2021 with a dream of making beautiful products and creating a more inclusive tech community.  Learn more about Elizabeth below.

How did you get into project and product management?

I always wanted to be in tech, but the development side wasn’t for me. The business/strategic side is where I found my calling! I worked my way up from entry level roles to project management, but over the years product management kind of fell in my lap when I least expected it. I found that I really enjoyed product work because it allowed me to be much more connected to my projects from start to finish, and it allowed me to bring a lot of creative thinking into my work.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love taking an idea from a dream to a reality. It’s so great to be able to set up a team for success creating something new, and then help them bring it to life.  I never get tired of seeing stakeholders’ eyes light up in a demo when you show them the product they’ve been dreaming about for years, and they’re able to actually begin using it.  At the end of the day, I get a lot of joy out of helping other people.

What are your favorite books about product strategy or business?

Right now I’m really enjoying Ruined by Design by Mike Monteiro, which is about design ethics.  Anyone who works on any product is a designer (even if we don’t have that job title), and this book talks about ways that we can be more ethical in our jobs.   I’m also a huge fan of Simon Sinek, in particular I think his book Start with Why is critical for product managers to read.

What are your remote work essentials?

Music!  I can’t get through my day without music playing, so I have speakers and headphones all over the place.  I also love nature, so any day that I can work outside is a great day for me – I hate being stuck in one spot.  On the more practical side, I upgraded to a glass chair mat a few years ago that has been a surprisingly big help in the battle between my chair and the carpet.  As for remote tools, I can’t live without Mural – it’s so great for collaboration with big teams.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

SO many things!  I feel like I have more hobbies than I can count.  I love to throw huge, elaborate themed parties (especially for children).  I also sew clothing and gifts, and I almost always have a book in my hands.

What's on your bucket list?

Travel!  Since we’re in the middle of a pandemic right now, I’ve really got that itch to travel as much as possible.  I love visiting historical sites and seeing unique natural phenomena, so seeing Machu Picchu, the Northern Lights, and Pompeii are high on my list.

What was your childhood dream job?

I always wanted to be a trapeze artist when I was small.  I loved the glittery costumes and acrobatic skill involved.  Plus, who wouldn’t want to run away with the circus?
